The book tells the story of one of Riga’s best-known restaurants – 3 chefs restaurant – which opened in September 2011 in the Jēkabs Barracks. It was a time when the restaurant culture around the world was rapidly changing – Noma in Copenhagen had become the best restaurant in the world, menus were reflecting the seasonality of ingredients and using products characteristic of the Nordic climate and landscapes.

The same shift in Riga was initiated by the 3 chefs restaurant, radically transforming the local restaurant scene and breaking preconceived notions about dining culture. In 2024, this was crowned by recognition from the Michelin Guide.

The book, dedicated to the restaurant’s 15th anniversary, consists of three parts – Restaurant, Recipes, Riga.

The first part provides an in-depth insight into the time when the restaurant was created and tells the story of the chefs, each of whom brought their unique style to shaping the restaurant’s menu.

The second part compiles their favorite recipes, while the third is designed as a guide to Riga. Short yet insightful stories about the surrounding area are complemented by artistic photographs by Jānis Deinats. In addition, the four owners of the restaurant take readers on a walk through their favorite places in Riga, revealing fascinating stories of the city’s history and contemporary life.
